Secret_Squirrel_Food_Dubai_Strawberry_Crunch_Slice_Blog

The classic strawberries & cream – this is the perfect flavour combination! Add a raw chocolate crunch slice and BOOM! It becomes a taste sensation! I love experimenting in the kitchen and this ended with a match made in heaven. It’s sugar-free, dairy-free, gluten-free and most importantly, GUILT-FREE! Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?! Sshhhh… Secret Squirrel 😉

Hi Bec! Yes – this freezes extremely well! Freeze without the strawberries. When ready to serve, let the crunch slice defrost for approximately 5 – 10 minutes, and then top with freshly sliced strawberries. It’s delicious! xx.

Hi there! I’m planning to make this dessert for a NYE gathering this year, have some questions re the chocolate base.

Do you have the measurement of the dates by weight? Else, is the full cup packed or?

Could I just use buckwheat groats that have been roasted in place of buckinis? I only have buckwheat groats over here!

Last one! (so sorry) Will omitting the coconut make a difference? If so, is the variety you used the dried kind or the slightly moist kind?

Hope to hear from you soon, thanks!

    Hi Adeline,
Ooooohh! This is exciting and NYE is fast approaching!
    Answers to your question:
    1. It is a full cup of packed dates.
    2. Yes, buckwheat groats is a great substitute!
    3. It is the dried desiccated coconut. You can also omit the coconut, and replace it with ¼ cup of nut of choice (almonds / walnuts / cashews).
    Hope that helps xx.

Sorry what kind of dates did you use? Medijool dates? I’ve never used dried dates other than in chinese soups so maybe you could give me an estimate of roughly how many you used? I’m afraid it might turn out too sweet because my family doesn’t have a very high sugar tolerance!

Hi Adeline, the sugar content in Medjool dates are natural sugar. You should be able to find Medjool dates at your local Supermarket. I’ve never used Chinese dried dates before, so I’m not sure if that would work.
    Hope that helps xx.

    Hi!
Is there any fruit I can substitute pineapple with?
Btw, I love your blog and your food always looks so amazing and yummy, you’re a great inspiration!

    Hi Vivien,
Thanks so much for the lovely comments!
You can substitute the pineapple with 1/4 cup dates and 1 tsp of water.
    xx.

Hi! Thank you for your response! I’ve already tried out this recipe and I used a bit of an apple instead. It worked just as well and tasted amazingly fruity!

Is it okay if u replace the cashews with almonds??

And thanks for your awesome recipes and blog 🙂

  11. Secret Squirrel

    Hi Tal,
It’s not possible to replace the cashew with almonds as the cashew nut gives it a smooth “creamy” texture.
    xx.

Hey Secret Squirrel! (Sorry i don’t actually know your real name haha), i was just wondering why you tend to use fresh pineapple in your tart bases? like say, if i didn’t have any fresh pineapple at hand, what other fruit purees could i use instead?
p.s. LOVE all your recipes btw!
    Aly xx

I saw on your Intagram that you made a similar Fig Slice, but cannot find the recipe anywhere. Could you please post the recipe for those as well. please? Thanks!

Hi! I really want to try this out, but unfortunately I cant find buckinis or buckwheat groats anywhere in argentina, so is there any chance I could omit it or replace it with something else? Like some kind of seed? And also, is it possible to replace dates with something else, like prunes for example or another dried fruit kind? I really love your blog!! Looking forward to your reply soon!!
